As you may know, a floor steam cleaner is perhaps the best way to clean a floor in your home. They are much better at actually cleaning a floor than vacuum cleaners, because they use steam at over two hundred degrees Fahrenheit to clean a surface, instead of just attempting to suck up debris. Another benefit to using a floor steam cleaner, as opposed to a chemical agent, is of course, that they use no chemicals, and yet still effectively kill dust mites and remove allergens to help alleviate allergy symptoms.
Steam cleaners can be used to remove stains, grease, grime and dirt from almost any surface by using just water. They can be used to disinfect surfaces and to kill dust mites, bacteria and mold. Of course, they can be used on surfaces like carpets, but they’re also fantastic for surfaces like tile, shower doors, grout, curtains, metal blinds and wood paneling. Since they aggressively clean surfaces however, they should not be used on anything painted, or on soft plastic.
Modern appliances are generally very safe for home use, however some safety precautions are advised when using a steam cleaner, since the steam is much hotter than the steam emitted from boiling water. Serious burns can be inflicted upon contact with this steam, so it’s not advised to use an old beat up steam cleaner, like you might with a vacuum cleaner.
Steam cleaners come in two main varieties; Handheld, and portable canister cleaners. The Handheld variety weigh significantly less, but aren’t able to hold much water, so can only be used for small spot cleaning jobs. The portable canister type are more like vacuum cleaners in size, and come with a number of attachments to clean different surfaces. These are not to be confused with Steam Vacs, which are actually just vacuum cleaners that don’t even use steam, but instead are designed to spray detergent on a carpet, and then suction it away.
Real steam cleaners have a few components dissimilar to vacuum cleaners, the first is a water tank which you fill with tap water, and the second is a heater or boiler which turns the water into steam. The steam created inside the unit will be under pressure, and when pointed at a surface using an attached hose or nozzle, the pressurized steam can then be released for efficient cleaning.
Because of the effectiveness of a floor steam cleaner, one does not have to use it very often, perhaps once per few months depending upon the number of people and pets in a household, to keep an area free from dust mites, mold, mildew and other bacteria.
